The past few years have posed an unexpected challenge for many. Because the switch to lockdown, working from home and significantly fewer opportunities to do something in public tied many to their screens and desks.

After numerous hours of work and gaming sessions, one thing in particular suffers: the back. The normal office chair is simply no longer sufficient to compensate for the increasing load. That’s why more and more people are turning to ergonomic chairs.

This also includes the gaming chairs, which are becoming increasingly popular. It doesn’t matter whether it’s from Razer, Secretlab or other manufacturers: A gaming chair is usually the best choice for surviving what is probably the most difficult time in terms of ergonomics and style.

To make it easier for you to search for a suitable chair and make your purchase decision, we present our overview of the currently best gaming chairs. Of course, these are only models that we have tested ourselves. However, the list is constantly being expanded to include new products.

This overview is divided into the three main aspects that play a role when buying a gaming chair: Appearance, ergonomics and comfort. In these three categories, we present the best model in each case – one for large and one for small purses.

Because at the end of the day, you alone decide how much you really want to spend on an ergonomic chair. Last but not least, it should be mentioned that a higher price does not always mean better quality – all models in this overview have their own raison d’être and are usually particularly well suited for a certain type.

Appearance may not be everything, but of course you also look at the appearance of a product when you buy it. Because what could be nicer than sitting enthroned on a really chic chair?

A certain trend often emerges, especially with gaming chairs: There are eye-catching models with colorful applications, logos or even RGB lighting. And as a counterpart to this, we have the simpler chairs that prefer to look elegant and noble.

For both cases, there are visually appealing products that convinced us in the test. In our eyes, ideally, a gaming chair is not just a heavily padded chair with colorful logos, but has a clean and attractive design that fits into any room. Ultimately, however, the look is something very individual, which can be evaluated differently depending on personal taste.

The next point is particularly important for any chair that is really used extensively: ergonomics. What was often underestimated in the past is now more important than ever. Whether as a streamer, freelancer, employee in the home office or gamer – if the ergonomics don’t fit, then it’s on your back and reduces your own performance.

When it comes to ergonomic chairs, the main focus is on how the back of the chair is shaped. It should provide optimal support and ideally be adjustable to suit every user. There are also optional supports specifically for the neck and lumbar spine that complete the picture.

Ergonomics is the point that affects the price the most. There is hardly a chair under 400 euros that satisfactorily fulfills all aspects. The products from Backforce and Razer, on the other hand, attach great importance to an ergonomic design and were convincing in the test.

Of course, there is one thing that cannot be missing from a chair, and that is comfort. Because the look and ergonomics are all well and good, but in order to be able to sit for a long time, the product should also be comfortable. The most important thing is the seat, which must be sufficiently padded.

But optional things like the neck pillow, padding on the armrests or the material of the cover also help to increase comfort. Sitting comfortably is made possible above all when comfort and ergonomics work together. Therefore, when choosing a gaming chair, you should always look at the comfort in combination with other functions.

The best gaming chairs: test winner overall

When it comes to a chair, it is particularly difficult for us to award it in a specific category. This is because it is completely convincing in terms of design, comfort and ergonomics. We’re talking about Recaro Rae Gaming Chairwhich we recently tested for you.

This is the new entry-level model from Recaro, which we gave us the top rating of 5/5 stars. The chair is available for 599 or 699 euros (depending on the color) and is therefore by no means cheap, but it is significantly cheaper than other Recaro chairs and, in our opinion, worth every cent.
