The subject of PC security is as old as the PC itself. Countless viruses, malware threats or phishing attacks make the use of an antivirus program on every Windows computer unavoidable. And since the entire market for antivirus software is currently turning over the gigantic sum of around 40 billion dollars a year, the competition is fierce. Keeping an overview and selecting the ideal antivirus software for your own computer is therefore difficult.

The results of our large customer survey should serve as a guide and show which software package you end up with the best. Our test field consists of nine antivirus programs from “A” like Avast to “N” like Norton. However, a big name is missing: Since the Federal Office for Information Security has expressed doubts about the reliability of the manufacturer Kaspersky and warns against the use of its products, the antivirus software from this provider is not included this time.

Incidentally, about a quarter of Windows users currently do not use antivirus software. This is not a good idea, because the risk of the computer becoming infected increases by about five times. So investing in an antivirus program is always worth it.

The most important thing about the survey

For this survey we have in July 2022 together with the publisher’s Institute for Technology Topics (FiFT). a total of 1034 people talked about the antivirus software they use. Most of the users surveyed use the respective software between three and ten years and have therefore gained in-depth experience with it.

As with all of our customer surveys, the basis for the evaluation is our Weka Promoter Score, from which the grades awarded are ultimately determined.

Neutral rating

The overall rating is made up of different areas:

• For example, the brand value is determined on the basis of image, value for money or recommendation.
• When it comes to customer service, aspects such as the friendliness of the employee and the quality and speed of the response count.
• The product quality area takes into account things such as the range of functions or the comprehensibility of the messages.
• Among other things, the overall protective effect and the scan quality play a role in the security category.

In summary, it can be said that all the results of the customer barometer for antivirus software 2022 reflect customer satisfaction with their program, but do not make any absolute statements.
