Regardless of whether it is about streaming video or audio content, online chats, home office activities, smart home or shopping on the web: without the Internet, in many important areas of our lives nothing works at all.

And if it might have been manageable in the past if the internet connection occasionally caused problems, dependencies and consequences are much greater today and ultimately far less tolerable. It is all the more important to have an Internet provider that you can rely on, that offers a stable and fast network at a reasonable price and that operates competent customer service if something should go wrong.

To find out which providers in Germany, Austria and the Switzerland do the best job all around and where there are snags and flaws, we interviewed several hundred customers of the largest providers in each of the three countries.

the Results This customer survey, which we carried out in cooperation with the Fachinstitut für Technikthemen (FifT), is based on our evaluation in the form of optimally comparable grades perish.

1&1 defends first place

We published the results of our last customer survey exactly one year ago in issue 7 of PC Magazin (here the article). At that time, 1&1 and Telefónica/O2 shared first place. While 1&1 is at the top of the podium again this year, Telefónica/O2 has slipped to third place. Deutsche Telekom came in second, while Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland only managed fourth place this year.

The bottom line is that the candidates have moved closer together, what a generally better quality the offers speaks. The providers rarely allow themselves real weaknesses in the four categories evaluated, but there are still one or two outliers.

Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland suffered massively from the poor rating of its customer service in the previous year. Although the provider has improved here, it is still clearly behind.

Ours is at the front Overall winner 1&1 stable in all areas, but Deutsche Telekom has meanwhile rushed ahead of the competition with its streaming offering. If you want the best here, Telekom is the best choice.
