55-inch televisions: the best LCD TVs in the test

LCD display technology, which has been used in televisions for over 50 years, is still at the forefront when it comes to picture quality. Through the use of new techniques such as Quantum Dot, further improvements in terms of contrast and crystal-clear color representation could also be achieved here.

Although the prices of the top devices are now approaching those of the more modern OLED TVs thanks to these new technologies, LCD TVs can now also keep up with the more current sibling models in terms of quality.

Samsung in particular manages to ensure a strong contrast ratio and improved dynamic range with the help of its “Neo QLED” technology. So-called quantum mini LEDs are used here, which are just a fortieth the size of conventional light emitting diodes and can therefore still offer a flat design in addition to the qualitative improvement.

With one of the top models of the current series, Samsung was able to top our best list of LCD TVs: The GQ55QN85A not only impresses with its bright and high-contrast picture, but can also shine with natural color reproduction.

Thanks to the Neo-QLED technology mentioned at the beginning, it is still an extremely flat television that fits into any living room. Nevertheless, the integrated speakers can also score with a relatively very good audio playback – if you still want to connect external speakers, you can do this via eARC and support for Dolby Atmos.

Price-performance tip: Sony KD-55XH9505

The Sony KD-55XH9505 can be found below the magic limit of 1,000 euros, which takes fourth place in our list of the best and is therefore the price-performance winner. In our test for the Sony KD-55XH9505, the LCD television was able to score with a very satisfactory contrast ratio and, with HDMI 2.1, also has the latest connection standard, which is particularly interesting for gamers.
