An anonymous hacker stole 125 gigabytes of data from the popular streaming service Twitch last October: all sources, all projects, all billing data and all user logins. He published the entire package on a forum so that other data thieves could begin to decrypt the passwords – an easy task with weak passwords.
Users who used the same login combination as with Twitch for other services sometimes found that these accounts were also quickly cracked. Twitch is spectacular due to the all-encompassing amount of data, but it is by no means an isolated case.
Almost all Internet services have been victims of login thieves in their history. Reason enough for us, the current password manager under the microscope that enable secure handling of login data.
