United States: an Apple engineer flees to China with crucial company secrets, two others are indicted for similar facts
It is surely one of the most ambitious projects of Apple and its code name is worthy of it: the Titan project. This is the project of the American company dedicated to a future autonomous car. […]
During this period of time, Weibao Wang thus had time to siphon some computers from Apple to recover the data and put them on his personal hard drive. Unfortunately for Apple, the former employee failed local authorities by initially indicating that he had no intention of leaving the United States. Problem: He had already purchased his one-way ticket to Canton, China. It was therefore impossible to get hold of the spy.
This is the third time ex-Apple engineers have been accused of spying for China, with each time a common point: all belonged to the division dedicated to a potential autonomous car of Apple. The two spies who preceded Weibao Wang have, however, been found. One pleaded guilty, the other sees his judgment being under investigation. Weibao Wang is now facing six counts, each punishable by ten years in prison. Extradition to the United States, however, seems unlikely.
