Macron’s campaign team adapts the video game Minecraft where you can come across characters praising the results of the five-year term. “A rather empty and depopulated world” according to the Huff
“It will appeal to gamers”. A few moments before the Minecraft server “Avec vous” went online on Tuesday March 29, an executive from Emmanuel Macron’s 2022 presidential campaign was amused by the suspense caused by this “little surprise innovation”. This communication operation, which is based on the famous cooperative video game, had been the subject of a mysterious announcement, published on the candidate’s Twitter account in the morning.
In substance, the purpose of the initiative seems obvious: in addition to promoting the candidacy of the Head of State, the fight against abstention on a platform popular with young people, with an average age of 24 years.
In this city made of bricks, we can thus visit a town hall, where a character offers us to go to the website of the Ministry of the Interior to check our registration on the electoral lists. At campaign headquarters and at the Palais des Congrès (in preparation for a future virtual meeting?), the characters redirect instead to the candidate’s site or that of “Young people with Macron”.
But apart from these three places and the few characters we meet there, the world is rather empty and depopulated. In our wanderings, we came across a hospital where the staff extols the merits of the Ségur de la Santé and a few characters here and there evoking various state aids, or even a school (which also highlights the reforms of the five-year term), a police station and a pharmacy. For the rest, the streets are for the moment quite empty (apart from the many campaign posters) and the rural surroundings totally depopulated. (…)
