Belgium: despite the request of the boss of cybersecurity, the socialist minister of defense continues to use TikTok
The request comes from federal deputy Georges Dallemand (Les Engagés). He will challenge Ludivine Dedonder this Thursday in the Chamber.
The pressure increases every day a little more on the Chinese site of ultra-short videos TikTok, criticized for its “addictive” aspect for young people and pointed out by an increasing number of national authorities, in Europe but also on the other side of the Atlantic, for breaches in terms of data security.
And the debate is also starting to gain momentum in Belgium. And is likely to animate the exchanges in the House this Thursday. The federal deputy Georges Dallemand (Les Engagés) intends, in fact, to question the Minister of Defense, Ludivine Dedonder, on Thursday. “The Minister uses TikTok with a private account for her political communication. Does she do this when she has two phones, one personal and the other professional? And if so, with possible connections between these two phones, provided that she has two? I don’t know, but in any event, this poses a real problem of setting an example in relation to the reality of a security threat to the use of data. I ask the Minister to delete this account”, he explained to us. And to add: “We are experiencing the worst security crisis in Europe since the post-war period and we know that Defense has recently been the subject of cyberattacks. There is therefore an extremely heavy context which encourages us not to take the slightest risk in this area. We have known for three or four years that there are doubts about TikTok and the porosity between this private company and the Chinese authorities on the use of data”.
